How to Test Out Your Home Alarm System

Almost every home in America now has a home alarm system. This is because most Americans are now realizing the value of protecting their loved ones and all of their most valued possessions. With the crime rates always on the rise, it is only right that you would want more means of protection for your home.

So you buy and install the home security system in your house. A lot of the devices needed for an effected alarm system can be found in all your local hardware stores. After you have installed your home alarm system, it is perfectly normal to want to try it out first. This is especially important if you did the installation yourself. You have to accept that you are no whiz with the screwdriver and maybe you might have screwed something up during the installation process.

Steps:

1. The common home security alarm system is usually monitored by a central station. Before you start your test, call the central station and have your security system placed on test mode. If you fail to do so, the police or fire department may show up at your doorstep with nothing to do.

2. You will need to trigger your system by tripping a sensor and see if the central station will receive a signal. You can also tell if you tripped the sensor properly if you hear the alarm or the siren.

3. Next step is to test every door, window, motion detector and any other device that is connected to your home security system. You can do this by tripping each device and see if they register on the control panel of your security system.

If everything checks out with your home alarm system, then you can call the central station once again and have your system taken out of the test mode.
